West Mexico (a paper label on the rear face may indicate the piece came from the state of Colima; “Tuxpan E. de Colima” (Tuxpan, state [ Estado] of Colima).
This axe is notable for its rectilinear shape with sharp angles where the faces meet. Compare with the more rounded form typical for Mesoamerican votive axes; see 1955.1.196, 1967.7.10.b.
